On the evening of 9/23/2014, Tuesday, our office will cancel any student/parent loan(s) that has not been accepted for the 2014-2015 academic year. This must be done to comply with new origination fees effective October 1, 2014. Please take a few minutes to review your 2014-2015 Financial Aid Award in zzusis and determine if you need the funds. Q: Can I get my loan(s) back? If so, how do I do that?
A: Yes. You can complete the Loan Action Request form to get your loan added back to your account. Visit finaid.wsu.edu, click on Forms, then Loan Action Request.

Work Study Funds Awarded
Work Study funding is now exhausted for Pullman and Spokane campus students for the 2014-2015 academic year (including spring and summer 2015 terms). Please note, only the Vancouver and Tri-Cities campuses are still accepting Work Study Authorization Forms (WSAFs) and are awarding students.
What This Means
- Unfortunately, the Pullman Student Financial Services (SFS) office is no longer able to accept and process new Work Study Authorization (WSAF) Forms for the 2014-2015 school year.
- Pullman students who’ve already returned their completed WSAFs to Student Financial Services and did not receive an award will have their form kept on file based on submission date (when the form was received). If new funding becomes available during the academic year, then additional work study awards will be given and students will be notified by email.
- SFS encourages students who did not receive an award to evaluate other options for funding their WSU educations. Such options could include searching CougLink for on and off-campus jobs, applying for outside scholarships, and/or pursuing a private education loan.

The Fall 2014 SAP Appeal submission deadline is September 23, 2014.

Depending on the situation, Student Financial Services may require additional documentation. These documents are not required to be submitted by the deadlines listed above.
A parent borrower who is denied a Direct Parent PLUS Loan because of adverse credit information has certain rights and options. If you have any questions about your Parent PLUS Decline Notification and/or the options listed below, the Federal Direct Loan (FDL) Applicant Services is available to assist you from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM, Eastern Time, Monday through Friday, toll-free, at 1-800-557-7394
A parent who has been denied a Direct PLUS Loan may take the following actions to see if the loan may still be approved:
- Appeal the credit decision: You must appeal directly to FDL program, who can be contacted at 1-800-557-7394 for more information.
- Add an endorser (co-signer) to the loan: Obtain an endorser (co-signer) who does not have an adverse credit history. An endorser is someone who does not have an adverse credit history and agrees to repay the loan if you do not repay it. The endorser may not be the student on whose behalf you are requesting the PLUS loan. An Endorser Addendum must be completed by the endorser, and submitted to the FDL program for processing. For instructions, please contact Direct Loan Applicant Services at 1-800-557-7394. Parent with an endorser (co-signer) must complete the Master Promissory Note each year.
- Additional Unsubsidized Stafford Loan for Student
If the options above are not successful, or you choose to not proceed with either option, the student may request to borrow additional funds through the Federal Direct Unsubsidized Stafford Loan program. Only students whose parent(s) have been denied a PLUS Loan may request the additional Unsubsidized Stafford Loan. If the Parent PLUS Loan is later approved, the student will no longer be eligible for the additional Unsubsidized Stafford Loan.
The PLUS Loan denial must be on file with WSU before an increase to the Unsubsidized Stafford Loan can be processed. To make a request to borrow additional funds through the Federal Direct Unsubsidized Stafford Loan program, the student will need to complete WSU’s “Parent PLUS Loan Decline Form” at http://finaid.wsu.edu/Forms.
Once WSU is advised that you are not pursuing the PLUS loan, and you’d like the Stafford Loan funding offered to your student, the PLUS loan will be cancelled and a supplemental unsubsidized Stafford loan will be offered to your student. The maximum additional amount a student may request is $4,000/year for freshman and sophomores, and $5,000/year for juniors and seniors. Your student will then need to accept the additional loan on their ZZUSIS account to receive the funds.
Federal regulations will no longer allow the Student Financial Services office to accept 1040, 1040A, nor 1040EZ tax returns for verification/file review purposes. Parents and students will need to submit an IRS Tax Return Transcript (Form 4506-T) when a Tax return Transcript is requested by our office. A tax return transcript can be obtained immediately online, or by phone and mail. It takes approximately two weeks to receive a mailed transcript from the IRS and it should be mailed to your home, not WSU.
To Order Tax Return Transcripts:
We will notify you if we need a document/form from you via ZZUSIS. This request would show on your “To Do List” in ZZUSIS. You should check your ZZUSIS “To Do List” regularly!
The “To-Do” list can be found by going to the Student Center > Under the Financial Aid 2014-2015 tab > Click Details > then the To-Do List page will be viewable. If you are being asked to submit forms or documents, it will list them on this page. The statuses of documents/forms submitted will also display here.
- A student, who still needs to submit documentation for spring 2014 or summer 2014 terms, will need to take forms/documents to their local financial aid office, mail it or send it via fax at 509-335-1385. Please be sure the student name and WSU ID number are on all document pages.
- For the 14-15 academic year, students will go to Submitsfsdocs.wsu.edu to fill out a form and/or submit a document requested. This online document portal will ask students to log in and then if the student needs to submit forms and/or documents, it will list them. All forms will be online and completed through this document portal. Submitsfsdocs.wsu.edu will also be the place where students can stay up to date on the latest processing of their forms and documents submitted to Student Financial Services. If a submitted document somehow wasn’t correct or complete, submitsfsdocs.wsu.edu will be the place to find out. A description of the “problem” will be provided and resubmission of the correct form/document will be needed to continue processing the financial aid application for the student.
Below are step-by-step instructions on how to process loans shown on your financial aid award. Please follow these steps so your financial aid monies can be delivered to your WSU Student Account. The below instructions are specific to the different types of loans offered by the federal government. For any questions about your financial aid, contact the Student Financial Services Office. It takes at least 48 hours to receive your loan monies after completing the required entrance loan counseling and/or master promissory note. For questions about your WSU charges, account balances, refunds, or late fees, please contact University Receivables (or also known as Student Accounts).

Not Seeing a Scholarship on Your Financial Aid Account?
If it is an Outside Scholarship: Check with the donor to find out if your scholarship
check has been sent to WSU. If it has been sent, be patient while it is processed.

If it is a Departmental Scholarship: If you have already received a notice from
your department of the award, no follow up is needed on your end. Your
department will submit the award to Scholarship Services to post. If you don't
see your award by the start of classes, check with your department on the status
of the award. See the process for departmental scholarships below.
Note the following:
- Most scholarships require full time (12 credits) enrollment to disburse
to your student account.
- You may not see a refund of the scholarship if you have a balance for
tuition,fees or room and board on your student account.
- If you have multiple outside scholarships from similar organizations, they
may be posted as one funding type on your financial aid account.
But,they will post separately on your student account.
