Important Update
As of July 1, 2009 and effective for the 2009-10 school year, the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships no longer has to account for veterans’ education benefits (chapter/GI bill benefits) as estimated financial assistance after the President signed into law the Higher Education Act Technical Corrections Bill (H.R.1777). Veterans Administration Vocational Rehab and ROTC funds are no longer counted as estimated financial assistance, as well.
All veteran benefit amounts have been removed from students’ financial aid award packages, and benefit-related tracking items (Forms 34, 35, MV) have been inactivated and removed from students’ financial aid to-do list.
Students that received a final award notification prior to July 1 with veteran benefits accounted for will have received a revised award notification in the mail and on their my.wsu.edu under the Finances/Student Aid page, reflecting the updated law.
The Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships will still account for 50% and 100% tuition waivers, which veteran students and dependents may be eligible for through a Washington state program, by adjusting a student’s tuition component in the cost of attendance to reflect the appropriate waiver amount.
If you have any questions about this updated federal law and how it affects your financial aid award package please contact our office at finaid@wsu.edu or (509) 335-9711.
